I used the Magic Mask in DaVinci Resolve Studio to cut out my hands and overlay them on top of a video cropped to just the keyboard. It’s amazing that software can do this now, though there are still a few visual glitches here and there.
Since this process relies heavily on the GPU and I’m using a Radeon RX 7600, it took quite a long time—about an hour for this single video. I tried tweaking the settings and re-running the Magic Mask several times, but couldn’t get it quite perfect…
Next time I have the chance, I’d like to try a few different approaches (such as splitting the video into shorter clips before applying Magic Mask, or using a green screen). I also wonder if upgrading to an RTX 5060 Ti or similar GPU would speed up the render time…
By the way, I referred to the video below for a workaround to lock and preserve the Magic Mask data. (Since Magic Mask data seems to be treated as cache, if it disappears—like when hitting Ctrl+Z—it can’t be restored and has to be reprocessed from scratch. This helps prevent that.)
